Coram and the 4.0

Over the past 2 years, Coram has made significant improvements in Industry 4.0, adopting new technologies to make its production processes more efficient, safer and sustainable.

In particular, dozens of its machines have been interconnected with the MES OEE client (production monitoring system), improving the management and control of production processes. Of these, 10 have been surveyed and upgraded to meet the high standards of Industry 4.0, thus ensuring optimal performance in line with modern production requirements.

Moreover, in this context of renewal, Coram has focused on five key areas:

Server storage

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programs and critical assembly parameters for specific workstations are recorded and stored on the company server. This not only protects the company’s data and technical know-how from possible cyber attacks or loss, but also ensures that the machine programmes are always up-to-date and aligned with the customer’s needs.

Tele-assistance and remote intervention

A remote assistance service has been activated, allowing machine builders to remotely operate the control systems (PLCs). This promotes faster troubleshooting, minimising machine downtime due to machinery breakdowns or maintenance. In this way, constant and reliable customer service is guaranteed throughout the project duration, ensuring that deadlines are met.

Cycle time analysis and monitoring

Regular monitoring of production times, process improvements and operator activities is carried out, continuously optimising equipment and personnel productivity. This progress is crucial to lowering production costs, improving prices for the end customer and increasing the company’s competitiveness for both current and new orders.

Calculation of plant saturation

The saturation of the machines is calculated considering their actual performance. This enables precise planning of new investments and better management of orders, adapting to changes in volumes and freeing up production capacity for new opportunities.

Analysis of downtime causes

Operators now use a PC integrated in the plants to record the downtime causes of them. This improves the understanding of machinery performance, allowing the company to discover its limits and potential, and to respond promptly to market demands.

These important improvements represent a decisive step for Coram towards a production which is more and more strategic, efficient and sustainability-oriented.

The adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies strengthens the company’s competitiveness and prepares Coram to better face future challenges. The company, with its constant commitment to innovation, is ready to seize the opportunities that technological and industrial evolution will offer in the years to come!
